In an operation that reportedly began under the cover of darkness around 4:00 AM on Wednesday, militants launched simultaneous strikes against both a tactical military base and a neighboring camp for internally displaced persons. The sheer scale of the incursion allowed the insurgents to maintain control of the area until daybreak, leaving a trail of destruction that has resulted in an unconfirmed number of fatalities among both security forces and the civilian population.
