SOKOTO/ZAMFARA – Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity, neutralizing dozens of armed bandits during a raid on the camp of the notorious kingpin, Bello Turji.

The Operation: Battle in Kagara Forest

The offensive, led by the 8 Division Strike Force, targeted hideouts in the Fakai community across Shinkafi (Zamfara) and Isa (Sokoto) Local Government Areas. The operation began in the early hours of March 20, 2026, deep within the Kagara Forest.

The Ambush and Response

The mission faced a critical moment near Maberaya village when two combat support vehicles developed mechanical faults. Exploiting the temporary halt, heavily armed bandits from Turji’s camp launched a surprise ambush from high-ground cover.

  • The Turnaround: Troops swiftly responded with superior firepower, engaging the criminals in a fierce gun battle.
  • Casualties: Dozens of bandits were eliminated. Three soldiers and one DSS personnel sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the 8 Division Military Hospital, Sokoto.

Fact Check: The "150 Drowned Bandits" Story

Military sources and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) have officially debunked viral reports claiming that 150 bandits drowned in a boat mishap in the Sabon Gida area.

  • The Verdict: The report is FAKE.
  • The Reason: NIWA Area Manager, Mr. Bello Bala, confirmed that the river in the Sabon Gida area is not even navigable for such a vessel.
