BALI, TARABA – In a major blow to the illicit drug trade in the Northeast, troops of Operation Safe Haven (Sector 3) have arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered a massive consignment of controlled substances.
The arrest occurred at approximately 3:57 p.m. on March 27, 2026, during a routine but strategic stop-and-search operation along the Allah Yayi–Daka road in Bali Local Government Area.
The Interception
Troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bali flagged down the suspect during a "snap checkpoint"—a tactic designed to catch criminals off-guard by shifting locations frequently.
- The Recovery: Upon searching the suspect, troops discovered 600 cards of Tramadol tablets.
- Legal Action: In line with inter-agency cooperation protocols, the Nigerian Army has handed over the suspect and the seized drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for profiling and prosecution.
Why This Matters
Security experts often link the high consumption of Tramadol to the boldness of bandits and insurgents during attacks. By cutting off the supply chain in Taraba, the military is effectively weakening the operational capacity of criminal groups in the surrounding forests.
