IDEMILI NORTH, ANAMBRA – Troops of the Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe (JTF-SS OPDS) have successfully prevented a major act of economic sabotage in Anambra State.

On the night of March 27, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., soldiers from the 5 Battalion acted on intelligence regarding suspicious movements around Well-head 40 in Idemili North Local Government Area.

The Confrontation

Upon arriving at the facility, the troops engaged a group of suspected vandals in a gun duel. Faced with superior firepower, the saboteurs fled into the surrounding bush, abandoning their mission.

Explosives Discovered

A search of the area revealed a dangerous discovery:

  • Dynamite and other sophisticated tools intended for the destruction of the well-head.
  • Ongoing Risk: A bomb disposal team was immediately called to the scene. While they identified the explosive devices, they were initially unable to disconnect them due to the risk of an accidental detonation.

Current Status

The area remains under heavy surveillance as specialists work to safely neutralize and remove the explosives. Security forces have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that national assets remain protected from vandals and insurgents.
