In a triumphant display of confidence and celebration, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, alongside Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, led a jubilant motorcade through Benin City today, marking what he hailed as the All Progressives Congress's (APC) string of legal victories over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The festivities followed a recent Appeal Court ruling that upheld the APC's electoral triumph, a decision the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, stated has given the Edo people cause for widespread celebration.
Governor Okpebholo, addressing a throng of party leaders, youths, market women, and supporters who filled the streets, attributed the APC's continued success to divine favor. He emphatically declared, "God will continue to give Edo people victory as He is in charge of the affairs of the State," while highlighting the PDP's repeated defeats at the governorship election, the Tribunal, and now the Appeal Court. A resolute Okpebholo confidently predicted further victories, stating, "We will still defeat them at the Supreme Court. We will continue to defeat them."
The Governor expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support and developmental initiatives under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership, reinforcing his conviction that the APC's dominance in Edo is unshakeable. He boldly asserted that "2027 is a done deal in Edo, and Edo people will surely cast their votes for the President come 2027, and nobody can stop Edo people’s voice, not even the PDP."
In a scathing rebuke of the opposition, Okpebholo accused the PDP of attempting to subvert justice through illicit means, claiming, "All the money they have stolen in Edo State was taken to court to buy judges and judgment, but they failed as judges refused to be bought and they ensured they did the right thing." He dismissed the PDP's grievances over their alleged loss of mandate, and their alliances with figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, as futile.
Proclaiming the end of the PDP's era in Edo State, Governor Okpebholo pledged to usher in a period of "practical governance and development." He proudly cited ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of the state's first flyover at Ikpoba-Hill in Ikpoba-Okah Local Government Area, with plans for two more already in motion, as tangible proof of his administration's commitment to progress.
