Nairobi Family Terrorized by Domestic Worker's Alleged Witchcraft
A family in the quiet Nairobi suburb of Syokimau is grappling with a horrifying ordeal after their domestic worker was accused of performing witchcraft rituals targeting them. The house help, identified only as Mwende, had been with the middle-class couple for about nine months when strange occurrences began to plague their home.
The family reported a series of unsettling events, including constant illnesses, the mysterious deaths of their pets, and unexplainable nightmares affecting their two young children. Their suspicions about Mwende peaked one night when their dog refused to enter the house and barked persistently at her room. This prompted the father to install a hidden camera in the living room, which ultimately revealed the shocking truth.
The footage, which has since gone viral, captured Mwende at approximately 2:47 a.m. emerging from her room dressed in a leso. She was seen chanting and sprinkling a strange powder around the baby’s crib. The horrified mother recounted that Mwende then lit black candles and whispered names, including hers and her husband's, while facing a mirror. The video also showed Mwende drawing cryptic symbols on the floor using ash and cooking oil and reportedly placing personal items belonging to the children in a small clay pot.
Police were immediately called, and Mwende was arrested the following morning.
A search of her room allegedly uncovered a bag containing bones, herbs, and handwritten notes with the names of family members crossed out. Athi River Police Commander, James Mutuku, stated that they are "working closely with religious and forensic teams to analyze the evidence."
The family, fearing spiritual contamination, has since moved out of their home. Mwende remains in custody as investigations continue into the disturbing incident.
