The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public warning concerning counterfeit batches of Healmoxy 500mg Capsules, which have been detected in Cameroon and the Central African Republic (CAR). Healmoxy 500mg Capsules are a broad-spectrum antibiotic containing Amoxicillin Trihydrate, typically prescribed for various bacterial infections affecting the respiratory system, urinary tract, skin, and gastrointestinal tract.
The product in question, manufactured by Maxheal Pharmaceuticals (India) and registered in Nigeria by Nkoyo Chemist, located at 23 Agbonyi Street, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, has raised significant concerns. Laboratory analysis conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that the falsified batches lack their active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and exhibit irregular manufacturing and expiry date formats.
Despite these findings, NAFDAC's investigation into the importation records of Nkoyo Chemist Ltd in Lagos indicated no evidence that these particular affected batches were brought into Nigeria. Nevertheless, the agency is strongly advising importers, distributors, healthcare professionals, and the general public to exercise extreme caution and maintain vigilance. NAFDAC underscores the critical importance of sourcing all pharmaceutical products exclusively from authorized and licensed suppliers, and to meticulously verify their physical integrity and authenticity before any use.
