Nnamdi Kanu Allegedly Vowed "2000 Heads" for Slain ESN Commander's Burial, Witness Tells Court

The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), recently took a dramatic turn at the Federal High Court in Abuja. A witness from the Department of State Services (DSS) shared some disturbing details, including an alleged broadcast by Kanu where he reportedly vowed that a deceased Eastern Security Network (ESN) commander, Ikonso, would be buried with "2000 heads."

This particular broadcast, said to have occurred on April 25, 2021, just a day after Ikonso was killed by security forces in Imo State, was presented as proof of Kanu's alleged incitement and extremism. The DSS agent testified that Kanu mourned Ikonso, praised him, and then issued threats of revenge. This audio clip was one of several played in court, aiming to highlight the impact of Kanu's words on his supporters within IPOB and ESN.

According to the testimony, Kanu claimed that Ikonso was killed in his sleep and threatened widespread killings to mark his burial. The DSS operative further revealed that this aggressive talk was seemingly backed up by a confession from an arrested IPOB member named Emeyiri Uzoma Benjamin, also known as "Onye Army." The operative stated that while Kanu had declared Ikonso would be buried with 2000 heads, "Onye Army" reportedly confessed they only managed to get "30 heads."

Both the recorded broadcast and a newspaper article about the "Onye Army" confession were presented as evidence in court. The trial is set to continue on June 18, 19, and 20 for more hearings.
