The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in its fight against cybercrime, announcing the arrest of 78 individuals suspected of internet fraud across Abia, Kano, and Nasarawa States. This information was released on Friday in Abuja by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity.
In Nasarawa State, 43 suspects were apprehended in Toto on Friday, acting on credible intelligence regarding their involvement in fraudulent online activities. The operatives seized various items from them, including five motorcycles, 64 mobile phones, four laptop computers, and an iPad.
Further operations in Abia State on Thursday led to the arrest of 30 suspects in Ariam and Ubakala. From this group, the EFCC recovered four cars, an iPad, three laptop computers, a sound system, 42 cell phones, and an external hard drive.
Meanwhile, in Kano, the Commission's Zonal Directorate apprehended five suspected cybercriminals during a sting operation on Tuesday at Farm Centre. Their arrest was also based on actionable intelligence linking them to internet fraud and related financial crimes. Mobile phones were recovered from these suspects.
The EFCC spokesperson affirmed that all arrested individuals will face charges in court once investigations are concluded, underscoring the agency's commitment to tackling financial crimes.
