Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly condemned the recent horrific killings in Benue State, where reports indicate over 200 people lost their lives in coordinated attacks on rural communities. He called these attacks "senseless" and a clear sign of Nigeria's growing insecurity problems.
Atiku shared his deep sadness over the bloodshed, stating that this attack on innocent Nigerians isn't just a local issue but a national emergency requiring quick and firm action. He urged both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to thoroughly investigate these attacks, arrest and punish those responsible, and boost security to stop further violence.
He also stressed the importance of sending well-equipped security forces, improving intelligence gathering, and actively protecting communities, especially in vulnerable rural areas. Atiku also pushed for immediate help for survivors, including medical care, support for trauma, and assistance in rebuilding their lives.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Atiku said, "My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families and communities. No words can capture the depth of pain experienced by those who have lost loved ones, homes, and peace of mind." He called on Nigerians to set aside their differences and work together to demand justice and lasting peace. Atiku concluded by saying, "Let us stand together as a nation in condemning these atrocities. May God console the bereaved, heal our wounded land, and restore peace to our communities."
