Heavy rain on Monday morning caused serious flooding in Bachure New Extension, a neighborhood in Jimeta, Yola. While other parts of Jimeta handled the rain fine, Bachure's streets and homes were swamped, damaging belongings and forcing some people to leave.
Residents are blaming the drainage system. Ephraim Timothy, who lives there, said the drains are either not good enough or aren't being taken care of properly. He pointed out that many drains are blocked with trash, making the problem worse instead of solving it.
Bachure isn't new to flooding; it used to happen almost every year. Things got better in 2021 when Governor Ahmadu Fintiri built a new main road with a proper drainage system. But this recent flood shows the issue isn't fully resolved. Other areas like Jambutu and Yolde Pate in Yola North and South are also at risk as the rainy season continues.
