A devastating incident unfolded on Sunday at the Mosalasi Roundabout along the Ipaja axis of Lagos when a black Toyota Tundra, registration number FST 222 HV, veered off the road due to excessive speeding, mounting a pedestrian walkway and fatally striking an unidentified female pedestrian. The impact was instantaneous, claiming the woman's life on the spot.
The destruction didn't end there; the speeding vehicle continued its uncontrolled trajectory, crashing into a nearby livestock compound, damaging its perimeter fence and an adjacent advertising billboard. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver, upon realizing the gravity of the calamity, attempted to flee the scene. However, prompt and coordinated action by officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) led to his swift apprehension.
The driver was subsequently handed over to security personnel from the Gowon Estate Command. The remains of the deceased victim were also transferred to the police for proper procedures. The driver is currently in police custody, undergoing intense interrogation as part of an ongoing investigation into this tragic event.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed profound sorrow over the loss, emphasizing that the incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of reckless driving. He extended heartfelt condolences to the victim's family, offering prayers for strength and fortitude during this irreparable loss.
