The unrest, which unfortunately overshadowed a legitimate gathering, has prompted calls for an end to the disturbances. TUV leader Jim Allister highlighted the ease with which such situations can escalate, stating, "It is easier to start than to stop these things."
Allister also touched upon a sensitive underlying issue, suggesting that authorities have historically avoided addressing the "racial background of some of this over the years." He attributed past and potential future tensions to "unchecked migration which is beyond what the town can cope with," emphasizing that "that is the reality of it."
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Allister maintained that the majority of those who gathered "had a perfectly legitimate purpose and cause of being there." He also confirmed speaking with the family of a girl involved in the incident, who expressed their clear desire for no violence.
Allister lamented that the original message of the gathering has been "diverted" by those who "wrongly and foolishly involved in violence," shifting the narrative away from its intended purpose. His clear message is for the violence to cease, acknowledging that legitimate concerns exist and are being heard. He urged for a period of calm, emphasizing that "justice needs to take its course."
