The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is currently under the microscope as its Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has taken decisive action following a media report accusing some of its patrol operatives of bribery.
In a move underscoring the Corps' commitment to integrity, an entire patrol team has been recalled, and an immediate investigation launched into the allegations. This development comes just two weeks after the House of Representatives established an ad hoc committee to scrutinize the FRSC's operational matters, including driver's licence issuance and revenue management over the past three years.
Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer, reaffirmed the FRSC's unwavering stance against corruption and misconduct. He emphasized that the organization maintains a zero-tolerance policy, with severe repercussions for any operatives found culpable. Such disciplinary actions could include dismissal from service and, where applicable, criminal prosecution.
Ogungbemide further elaborated on the Corps' long-standing proactive approach to eradicating corruption, highlighting a robust anti-corruption policy, dynamic operational activities, and continuous monitoring. He stressed that any operative apprehended for criminal offenses, including extortion, would not only face internal disciplinary proceedings and disengagement but would also be handed over to the Police for prosecution.
This unwavering commitment to discipline has led to a continuous reorganization of the internal surveillance system, resulting in the termination of appointments for many operatives found guilty of bribery and corruption, with others facing legal action.
